Denise Kramer is a professional artist, who specializes in creating sailing and racing inspired paintings on charts that commemorate the various locations sailed by herself or her patrons. Her technique of re-purposing nautical charts has developed over many decades. Her inspiration comes from sailing and racing with her husband, Chris, on their boats, SIX BROTHERS and SWEET DE.

The process of creating one of Denise’s paintings involves merging the technical aspects of cartography with the creative process of an artist. Denise’s artworks are created using paper nautical charts that are dry-mounted and painted with acrylic paint. The results are innovative and distinctive images that tie into the shape and intended meaning of the chart. This careful process results in a unique artwork that not only captures the beauty of a particular location, but also highlights its maritime significance.
